Following the death of Ed Lee, Breed became acting mayor, shortly before being removed as the board didn’t want to give her a de facto incumbency.
In 2020 she endorsed Harris’ campaign and before supporting to Michael Bloombergs campaign once Harris had dropped out.
As mayor she spearheaded a campaign of police drones to tackle carjacking.
In 2019 the BBC made her apologise after she presented a posthumous certificate of honour decided by the United Irish Societies to former IRA member Martin McGuinness.
In 2021 she started the “Dream Keeper” initiative to move $120 million from the police budget to support Black communities in San Francisco. This initiative was since found to have been siphoning off money including money going to a house in Mathers vineyard, cigars and bourbon as well as part of the money going to programs in Oakland instead.
During her mayoralty she tried to incentivise the building of modular housing. She defunded a program that required at risk housing.
She went to YIMBY prom.
Under breed there was a scandal in the public works program, which she was connected to due to her association with the director Mohammed Nuru. She took to medium.com to write an article called transparency detailing her relationship with Nuru to clear her innocence.
It was found that she made her appointees sign undated resignation letters in case of “the most extreme circumstances.”
In the 2024 election she lost to Daniel Lurie.
She also cameoed in the matrix resurrected.
